Supercapacitors

About Supercapacitors

When a power failure threatens to corrupt data or a motor draws a startup surge that a battery cannot deliver alone, a supercapacitor bridges the gap. Also called EDLCs or ultracapacitors, these devices store energy electrostatically rather than chemically, offering cycle lives in the hundreds of thousands. Buyers compare capacitance (from fractions of a farad to thousands of farads), rated voltage, ESR, and form factor—radial cans, coin cells, or module packs. Eaton, Maxwell (now Tesla), Panasonic, and Vishay supply most designs. Download datasheets and request volume pricing.
