25 F supercapacitor for hold-up and peak-power backup
The SCCU25B256SRB is a 25 F supercapacitor from KYOCERA AVX's SCC series, rated at 2.7 V. Its 27 mOhm ESR at 1 kHz allows high pulse-current delivery with low self-heating, making it suitable for applications like power-fail hold-up, peak-power buffering in IoT devices, or backup in metering and industrial controls.
Capacitance tolerance and ESR — designing for the real spread
The -10%, +30% tolerance on 25 F means the minimum capacitance at rated voltage is 22.5 F. For hold-up time calculations, use the minimum value to guarantee the backup duration; the typical ESR of 27 mOhm at 1 kHz is the figure for I²R loss estimation, but the datasheet's maximum ESR at end-of-life should be used for worst-case voltage droop.
Temperature limits and lifetime derating
Operating temperature range is -40°C to 65°C, with a rated lifetime of 1000 hours at 60°C. Above 65°C, voltage derating is required per the manufacturer's guidelines; the 2.7 V rating applies only within the full temperature window. For deployments in hot enclosures or near power supplies, verify the ambient temperature stays below 65°C or reduce the applied voltage accordingly.
Through-hole radial can — board integration
Packaged in a radial can with 0.295" (7.50 mm) lead spacing and PC pin termination. The can diameter is 0.630" (16.00 mm) and seated height 1.063" (27.00 mm). Bulk packaging means the parts are loose — no tape-and-reel carrier, so plan for hand-loading or tube-fed assembly for low-to-moderate volumes.
