Energy storage and ESR — sizing the hold-up cap
The SCCT20E106SRB stores 10 F at 3 V, which delivers roughly 45 J of usable energy down to the minimum operating voltage of the downstream regulator — enough to ride through a 100 ms power glitch at a few hundred milliamps without a backup battery. The 50 mOhm ESR at 1 kHz limits the peak charge/discharge current: a 3 A pulse drops 150 mV across the internal resistance, so the terminal voltage sags before the capacitance alone would predict. For pulse loads, derate the usable capacitance by the IR drop.
Temperature and lifetime — the endurance ceiling
Rated for 1000 hours at 60°C, the SCCT20E106SRB follows the standard supercapacitor acceleration model: every 10°C below 60°C roughly doubles the lifetime. At 45°C ambient, expect around 4000 hours before the capacitance drops below 80% of initial. Operating range spans -40°C to 65°C, so it handles cold-start down to -40°C with reduced capacitance (typically 50-60% of the 25°C value) — fine for backup in outdoor or unheated enclosures.
Board integration — radial can, PC pins
Through-hole radial can, 12.5 mm diameter, 22 mm seated height, with 5.5 mm lead spacing. The PC pins are tin-plated; the can is not electrically isolated, so keep a 1 mm keep-out zone around the body on the PCB to avoid shorts to adjacent traces. Supplied in bulk — no tape-and-reel option, so hand-placement or tube-fed insertion is the assembly path. The -10%/+30% tolerance on capacitance means the minimum guaranteed value is 9 F; design the hold-up time budget around that floor.
