1 F, 2.7 V supercapacitor — energy-hold spec and ESR trade-off
The SCCR12B105PRB is a 1 F supercapacitor from the KYOCERA AVX SCC series, rated at 2.7 V with a 150 mOhm ESR at 1 kHz. The 1 F capacitance stores enough energy for short-duration backup or peak-power buffering in a compact radial-can package. Its 150 mOhm ESR limits the peak discharge current — at 2.7 V, the maximum theoretical short-circuit current is 18 A, but the usable pulse current is derated by the ESR heating and the 1000-hour lifetime at 60°C. For a 1 A pulse, the internal voltage drop is 150 mV, which cuts into the usable energy.
Through-hole radial can — footprint and PCB integration
The part comes in a radial, can package with 0.138" (3.50 mm) lead spacing and PC pin termination. The 8.00 mm diameter and 14.00 mm seated height fit a standard through-hole footprint on a 2-layer board. Bulk packaging means the parts ship loose in tubes or trays — no tape-and-reel for automated pick-and-place. Hand-insertion or tube-fed insertion is the assembly path.
Lifetime and temperature envelope
Rated for 1000 hours at 60°C — the endurance test condition. Operating temperature spans -40°C to 65°C, which covers most indoor and outdoor equipment but not extended high-temp environments like engine bays. The 0%, +100% tolerance on capacitance is typical for supercapacitors — the actual capacitance can be up to double the nominal 1 F. Design the hold-up time or pulse budget for the minimum 1 F, not the typical.
