8200Vrms isolation — the spec that defines the board
The Vishay CNY65EXI is a single-channel DC-input, transistor-output optocoupler in a 4-DIP through-hole package. Its isolation rating is 8200Vrms.
CTR range and drive margin
Current transfer ratio runs from 50% minimum to 300% maximum, both specified at 5mA forward current.
Switching speed and output ratings
Rise and fall times are both 2.4µs typical; turn-on time is 5µs, turn-off 3µs. That puts this part in the general-purpose isolation class — fine for 50/60Hz mains sensing, relay drivers, and status feedback at low data rates, but not for high-speed digital isolation. Output transistor can handle up to 32V and 50mA per channel, with a Vce saturation max of 300mV. The 75mA absolute max forward current on the LED side gives a comfortable margin above the 5mA test point.
The 100°C ceiling is the junction limit — keep the board airflow reasonable if you're running near the 50mA output current at the high end.
ROHS3 compliant. The through-hole 4-DIP package is mature and widely second-sourced; if you need a dual-sourcing strategy, the Vishay CNY65 family has pin-compatible options across the CTR binning range.
