Integrated isolated RS-485/RS-422 transceiver with on-board DC-DC
The Analog Devices ADM2587EBRWZ is a fully integrated, isolated RS-485/RS-422 transceiver that combines a magnetic-coupled digital isolator (iCoupler technology) with an integrated isolated DC-DC converter (IsoPower). This means the part provides both signal and power isolation on a single 20-SOIC package, eliminating the need for a separate isolated power module on the bus side. The transceiver is unidirectional with one driver and one receiver channel (1/1 input configuration), and the rise/fall times are specified at 1.1 µs typical, which limits edge-rate emissions — useful for longer cable runs without excessive ringing.
2500 Vrms isolation and common-mode transient immunity
The 2500 Vrms isolation rating is the figure that determines whether this part fits a given safety standard — think IEC 60950-1 reinforced insulation for mains-connected equipment, or medical isolation requirements in non-patient-contact applications. The common-mode transient immunity is specified at a minimum of 25 kV/µs, which means the receiver output won't glitch when a large voltage step jumps across the isolation barrier. That matters in motor-drive environments where PWM switching couples fast edges onto the bus cable.
No exposed pad, so thermal management relies on the package's own dissipation limits — keep the ambient airflow in mind if running near the maximum bus load continuously.
