Isolated power and signal in one SOIC-16 package
The ADUM5200ARWZ-RL from Analog Devices combines a 2500Vrms digital isolator with an integrated, isolated DC-DC converter in a single 16-SOIC package. This is the key differentiator from a plain isolator: the IsoPower block generates a regulated, isolated output voltage from the input-side supply, eliminating the need for a separate isolated DC-DC module or a third transformer winding. The part provides two unidirectional data channels at 1 Mbps, with the input-side supply accepting 3V to 5.5V and the output-side power stage requiring 4.5V to 5.5V.
The 2500Vrms isolation rating is the standard for basic isolation per IEC 60950-1 and IEC 60601-1 (medical) for one-minute hipot testing. It provides a reinforced insulation barrier for mains-connected circuits up to 300V working voltage. The 25 kV/µs common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) is the critical parameter for applications with fast-switching power stages — motor drives, inverters, and switch-mode power supplies — where high dV/dt edges on the isolated side can otherwise corrupt data across the barrier. At 25 kV/µs, this part handles the switching edges of a typical IGBT or SiC MOSFET gate driver without bit errors.
1 Mbps data rate and 100 ns propagation delay
The 1 Mbps data rate and 100 ns maximum propagation delay (tpLH / tpHL) suit this device for control signals, fault flags, enable lines, and slow serial buses like I²C (if the pull-up is on the isolated side) or UART at standard baud rates. The 40 ns maximum pulse-width distortion means the on-time and off-time are well matched, which matters for PWM signals where duty-cycle accuracy is needed. Rise and fall times are 2.5 ns typical, giving clean edges without excessive ringing. For higher-speed interfaces like SPI at 10 MHz or full-speed USB, a faster isolator family is needed.
