RS232 with onboard isolated power — no separate DC/DC module needed
The Analog Devices ADM3252EABCZ is an RS232 transceiver that integrates both the signal isolation and the isolated power supply into a single 44-CSPBGA package. It belongs to the IsoPower and iCoupler series, using magnetic coupling technology for the isolation barrier. The part provides 2500Vrms of galvanic isolation and includes an on-chip isolated DC/DC converter, so you do not need a separate isolated power module on the board — that saves board area and simplifies the BOM for industrial RS232 ports that need to break ground loops.
460Kbps data rate and 25kV/µs CMTI — what they mean on a factory floor
The 460Kbps data rate covers standard RS232 communication for PLCs, industrial terminals, and medical equipment serial links. The 25kV/µs minimum common-mode transient immunity means this part can sit on a board next to a motor drive or inverter switching at high dV/dt without losing data across the isolation barrier — a common failure point with optocoupler-based isolators that have slower transient rejection. The four channels are arranged as two inputs and two outputs on each side of the isolation barrier (2/2 configuration), all unidirectional. Rise and fall times are a tight 2.5ns typical, which keeps the signal edges clean even at the full 460Kbps rate.
The supply range spans 3V to 5.5V on both sides of the isolation barrier, so it works with common 3.3V or 5V logic rails without needing a separate level shifter.
