20-SOIC package and board-fit
The UC3637DW ships in a 20-SOIC package with a 7.50 mm body width (0.295") and a 1.27 mm pitch. The 20-SOIC footprint is a standard JEDEC outline — the pad layout and stencil aperture for the SOIC-20 wide body are well-established in most PCB libraries, so no custom footprint work is needed. Supplied in tubes (the listed package form), the parts are tray- or tube-fed for pick-and-place. The 20-SOIC wide body has a seated height of roughly 2.65 mm, which fits within typical 1.6 mm board clearance envelopes.
Brushed DC motor control — supply range and output stage
The UC3637DW is a PWM controller for brushed DC motors, integrating commutation and direction management. Its output configuration is a pre-driver for four half-bridge stages — this means it drives external power FETs in an H-bridge topology, not the motor directly. The controller handles the logic and gate drive sequencing; the external FETs handle the motor current. The wide range lets the same part serve both low-voltage battery-powered actuators and higher-voltage industrial motor drives, as long as the external FETs are rated for the rail. The parallel interface means direction and PWM commands are set via logic-level pins — no serial bus, no protocol overhead. For a simple bidirectional motor, the control loop is just two GPIOs: one for direction, one for PWM duty cycle.
Temperature grade and deployment context
This limits the UC3637DW to indoor, climate-controlled environments: office equipment, bench-top instruments, lab automation, and consumer appliances. It is not specified for automotive under-hood or industrial enclosures without active cooling. The general-purpose application tag covers a broad set of brushed DC motor control tasks — pump drives, fan speed control, conveyor belt indexing, and robotic joint actuation where the ambient stays within the commercial band.
