SOT-89-3 adjustable shunt reference for precision bias and regulation
It provides a programmable output from 2.495 V up to 36 V by way of two external resistors, with a ±1% initial tolerance on the internal 2.495 V reference. The shunt regulator topology means it sinks current from a supply through a series resistor, regulating the voltage at the reference pin. The 100 mA cathode current rating and 600 µA minimum cathode current define the operating window for the external resistor and load combination.

The ±1% tolerance on the 2.495 V internal reference is the starting point for the output voltage accuracy in any divider network. For a 5 V output using a 1% divider, the total error budget lands near 2% before temperature drift — adequate for most secondary-side regulation in AC-DC supplies and isolated DC-DC converters. The adjustable output spans 2.495 V to 36 V, covering the common 3.3 V, 5 V, 12 V, and 24 V rail regulation needs. The shunt current must stay between 600 µA and 100 mA for the device to regulate; the series resistor is sized to guarantee this window across the full load range.
