Supply range and output flexibility — the BOM-fit decision
A 2V to 36V single-supply range means this comparator can share a 3.3V logic rail or a 24V industrial bus without a secondary regulator. The open-collector output (rated for CMOS, MOS, and TTL compatibility) lets you pull up to a different voltage than Vcc — for example, a 5V pull-up on the output while the comparator runs from 24V. That saves a level-shifter IC on the BOM.
Speed and precision — what the 1µs delay and 2.5mV offset mean
The 1µs typical propagation delay is adequate for line-frequency monitoring (50/60Hz zero-cross detection), overvoltage/undervoltage lockout, and slow sensor threshold circuits. It is not fast enough for switching-regulator feedback loops or high-frequency PWM control — those need sub-100ns comparators. The 2.5mV maximum input offset at 36V is standard for an industrial-grade part; it will not drift enough to cause false triggers in a thermostat or a pressure-switch monitor, but it is not a precision nulling device. The 0.025µA maximum input bias current at 5V means negligible loading on high-impedance sources like thermocouples or photodiode amplifiers.
