The 74H05PC is a hex inverter with six open-collector inverter gates in a 14-pin DIP. Each gate inverts a single input, and the open-collector output allows wire-OR connections or driving loads above Vcc. Propagation delay is 18 ns at 5 V with a 50 pF load.
Open collector: the feature that defines the fit
The open-collector output is the headline differentiator here. Each inverter's output is the collector of an NPN transistor with no internal pull-up — you supply the pull-up resistor to whatever voltage your load needs, up to the transistor's rated breakdown (typically around 30 V for this family). That means you can drive a 12 V relay coil from a 5 V logic signal, or interface a 5 V system to a 3.3 V input by pulling up to 3.3 V. The trade-off: the output can only sink current, not source it. Sink current is typically 16 mA per gate, enough for a standard TTL load or a small LED. The quiescent supply current maxes at 58 mA for all six gates powered up.

The 14-DIP (0.300" width, 7.62 mm pitch) and 14-PDIP supplier package are through-hole, which is a deliberate choice for repair benches, prototyping boards, and designs that avoid SMT reflow. Each gate has one input, six circuits total in the package.
