ESR is the spec that governs the real use
The TPSD227M010S0150: The 150 mOhm ESR at 10 V rated and 220 µF is the number that determines how much ripple current this cap can handle before self-heating shifts the leakage. For a bulk decoupling cap on a 10 V rail, the ESR sets the AC voltage ripple across the cap — a 150 mOhm ESR means 1 A of ripple current produces 150 mV of ripple voltage, which is within tolerance for most POL converters. The -55°C to 125°C operating range covers the full military temperature band. Unlike commodity tantalums that derate voltage above 85°C, the TPS series maintains its rated voltage across the entire range — the molded case construction keeps moisture ingress low at the high end and prevents cracking at the low end.
The molded case gives a flat top for pick-and-place nozzle vacuum pickup and better moisture resistance than conformal-coated tantalums. Surface-mount mounting on standard FR-4 with the usual tantalum pad pattern — the anode pad is the smaller end, cathode is the larger end marked with a stripe.
