What the automotive grade and 28 mOhm Rds(on) mean for your BOM
The BTS50162EKAXUMA1 is an Infineon PROFET high-side power switch — two N-channel MOSFETs in a single 14-SOIC exposed-pad package, each rated 6 A continuous output with a typical on-resistance of 28 mOhm.
Load voltage range and fault protection — what the ratings drive
The load voltage range spans 5 V to 28 V, so the switch handles a nominal 12 V truck battery, a 24 V industrial rail, or a 5 V logic supply without a separate regulator. The input side does not require a Vcc/Vdd supply — the gate drive is self-biased from the load voltage. Fault protection includes fixed current limiting, open-load detection, and over-temperature shutdown. The auto-restart feature means the switch re-tries after a thermal fault once the die cools — useful for intermittent overloads like a stalled motor or a lamp inrush, but the downstream logic should monitor the status flag to distinguish a transient from a hard short.
