What this PROFET switch is rated for
The BTS500801TEBAUMA1 is a single-channel high-side switch from Infineon's PROFET series. Its 8 mOhm typical Rds(on) keeps conduction losses low at the 10 A continuous output ceiling, which matters for loads like incandescent lamps, DC motors, or solenoid valves where the inrush current can hit several times the steady-state rating. The load supply range spans 5.5 V to 30 V, covering nominal 12 V and 24 V automotive and industrial buses. The TO-252-5 (DPak) package with exposed tab helps pull heat into the PCB copper plane.
Protection features and interface
Fault protection covers current limiting (fixed), open load detection, over-temperature, and over-voltage — the part shuts itself off and auto-restarts when the fault clears, which is the Auto Restart feature listed. The input is non-inverting, On/Off logic, so a logic-high on the input turns the output on. No Vcc supply is needed; the switch is self-powered from the load rail. Because it is a single-channel device with a 1:1 input-to-output ratio, there is no internal charge pump to sequence — just pull the input high and the N-channel gate charges from the drain. That simplicity means no external bootstrap capacitor, but it also means the output cannot be PWM-switched at high frequency without the driver stage; the part is designed for static or low-frequency on/off control.
