Low-side switch for harsh environments
The Infineon BTS3104SDRATMA1 is a single-channel low-side N-channel power switch from the HITFET® family, designed for general-purpose on/off switching. It handles a continuous load current up to 2 A with a typical on-resistance of 104 mOhm, and the load voltage can go to 60 V maximum. The junction temperature range of -40 to 150 °C suits under-hood automotive, engine-bay, or outdoor industrial enclosures where ambient heat is high. No external Vcc supply is needed; the gate drive is self-biased from the load rail. Built-in fault protection covers fixed current limiting, over-temperature shutdown, and over-voltage clamping — reducing the need for separate TVS diodes or current-sense resistors on the board. The logic input is non-inverting with a 1:1 ratio, so a logic high turns the output on. The single output in a TO-252-3 (DPAK) package with a tab for heatsinking keeps the board footprint small.
Protection features and thermal behaviour
Three integrated protections cover the common failure modes in a switched-load path. Fixed current limiting holds the output current to a safe level during a short circuit; over-temperature protection shuts the switch off if the junction exceeds the die threshold, and it auto-restarts when the die cools. Over-voltage clamping protects the switch and downstream load from supply transients up to the device's breakdown capability. These protections are especially useful in unregulated or weakly regulated power domains — for example, driving lamps, solenoids, relays, or small motors in a truck body controller or a factory automation I/O card.
