The BTS142DATMA1 comes in a TO-252-3 (DPak) surface-mount package, supplier code PG-TO252-3-11. That is a standard three-lead DPak with a tab for thermal transfer to the PCB copper. The tab is the drain connection, so the footprint must tie it to the load voltage plane. No special reflow profile required — standard lead-free solder works.
Protection and control — what the on/off interface expects
The input is a non-inverting on/off logic pin — pull it high to turn the switch on. No external Vcc supply is needed; the gate drive is self-biased from the load voltage. The auto-restart feature means after an over-temperature fault clears, the switch turns back on automatically. That is useful for intermittent overloads like a stalled motor that clears when it cools, but it also means the load sees repeated on-off cycles during a sustained fault — something to keep in mind if the load is sensitive to power cycling.
That means Infineon is still manufacturing it, and there is no end-of-life notice on the table. The HITFET family has been around long enough that the datasheet and application notes are mature. If you are qualifying a new design, there is no LTB clock ticking.
