Product details

What this HITFET low-side switch does

The Infineon BTS3028SDLATMA1 is a single-channel N-channel low-side power switch from the HITFET® family, designed for general-purpose On/Off switching of resistive, inductive, and lamp loads. It integrates a vertical power MOSFET with a 28 mOhm typical Rds(on) and delivers up to 5 A continuous output current, switching loads up to 60 V. The input is non-inverting with a 1:1 ratio, and no external Vcc supply is needed — the gate drive is self-biased from the load voltage. Built-in fault protection covers current limiting (fixed), over-temperature, and over-voltage, making it suitable for rugged environments like automotive body controllers, industrial actuators, and power distribution modules.

Fault protection set — over-temperature, over-voltage, current limiting

Three integrated protections make this a drop-in rugged switch: fixed current limiting prevents excessive current during short circuits or inrush; over-temperature shutdown protects the die if the junction exceeds the rated limit; over-voltage clamping absorbs inductive load flyback and supply transients.

The TO-252 package with exposed drain tab allows heat sinking to the PCB copper plane, essential for continuous operation near the 5 A limit at high ambient.

For new designs, this part is a current-generation HITFET device with no imminent obsolescence risk.

Frequently asked questions

What is the BTS3028SDLATMA1 Rds(on) and maximum current?

Typical Rds(on) is 28 mOhm, and the maximum continuous output current is 5 A. The load voltage rating is 60 V max.

Does BTS3028SDLATMA1 have over-temperature protection?

Yes, it includes over-temperature shutdown as part of its fault protection set, along with fixed current limiting and over-voltage clamping.

What are the replacements for BTS3028SDLATMA1?

Within the HITFET family, the BTS142DATMA1 is a close functional peer with a lower Rds(on) of 23 mOhm but a lower load voltage rating of 42 V and a slightly lower maximum current of 4.6 A. It is not a direct pin-compatible replacement — verify the load voltage and current requirements before substituting.

Is BTS3028SDLATMA1 suitable for automotive applications?

Yes, the -40°C to 150°C junction temperature range and integrated fault protections (over-temperature, over-voltage, current limiting) make it suitable for automotive body control, lighting, and actuator switching in under-hood and cabin environments.
