11 ns propagation delay — what it means for the bus
At 5V and 50 pF load, the max propagation delay is 11 ns per gate. Output low current is 8 mA.
Package and footprint
The 14-SOIC body is 3.90 mm wide. Pin 1 orientation is marked by a dot or notch on the package.
Temperature grade and environment
Rated for 0°C to 70°C — commercial temperature grade. That means it is at home in a desktop power supply, a printer logic board, or a lab instrument, but do not spec it for a motor drive cabinet or an outdoor telecom enclosure. The 74ALS family runs warm; at 5V and 70°C ambient, derate the output current if all six gates are switching simultaneously.
Field-service note
If you are carrying a field kit, the 14-SOIC package is small but manageable with tweezers and a standard iron. The 0°C to 70°C rating means it will not survive a hot truck dashboard in summer — keep spares in a cool part of the kit. Orientation: pin 1 is the end with the dot or notch; the datasheet has the pinout. No special ESD precautions beyond the usual wrist strap.
