6.4 Gbps dual-lane SAS/SATA redriver with signal conditioning
The DS64BR111SQE/NOPB is a two-channel buffer/re-driver purpose-built for SAS and SATA interfaces, handling data rates up to 6.4 Gbps per lane. The CML input and output stages are matched to the common-mode levels of SAS/SATA transceivers, so the part slots directly between the controller and the connector without external level translation. On-chip equalization on the receive side and de-emphasis on the transmit side extend the reach across lossy PCB traces, backplanes, and cable assemblies. This matters when the trace from the storage controller to the SAS/SATA connector runs more than a few inches on a standard FR-4 board — without conditioning, the eye closes before the signal reaches the drive.
Supply, power, and package planning
The 50 mA supply current per device keeps the thermal budget low on a dense line card — two lanes of redrive for roughly 165 mW at 3.3 V. The 10 pF input capacitance loads the upstream driver; verify that the controller's output driver can sink the AC terminations for the trace impedance without excessive jitter.
Temperature grade and deployment environment
The 230 ps typical propagation delay is short enough that it does not add a full bit-time of latency at 6 Gbps; budget it into the total round-trip timing for the link.
