What the 150°C junction rating buys the design
The STMicroelectronics L6726A is a single-phase step-down (buck) PWM controller in an 8-SOIC package. It drives an external transistor pair and integrates synchronous rectification.
Switching at 270 kHz — inductor and capacitor sizing
The L6726A switches at a fixed 270 kHz. The 80% maximum duty cycle limits the step-down ratio.
Control features and design flexibility
The L6726A includes Enable, Frequency Control, Phase Control, and Power Good. Enable gives a clean start-up sequence; Power Good provides a fault flag for the system supervisor. Phase Control allows the controller to be synchronized to an external clock or to run in a multi-phase configuration — useful when two L6726A devices power a CPU core and I/O rail and need to be phase-shifted to reduce input ripple. The controller is ROHS3 compliant, so no lead-free process concerns.
Lifecycle and sourcing posture
The ROHS3 compliance is current. For high-volume or long-term programs, dual-sourcing with a pin-compatible second source is worth evaluating.
