Flyback switcher with 800 V internal MOSFET
The STMicroelectronics ALTAIR05T-800 is an offline flyback switching regulator with an integrated 800 V avalanche-rated MOSFET, designed for isolated AC-DC power supplies up to moderate power levels. The 800 V breakdown voltage gives headroom for direct rectified 230 VAC input plus line transients — a common requirement in industrial auxiliary supplies and appliance power stages. The controller operates from a Vcc range of 11.5 V to 23 V and starts up at 13 V, a typical window for offline flyback controllers powered from the bulk capacitor through a start-up resistor. The output is galvanically isolated, meeting safety isolation requirements for applications where primary-to-secondary separation is mandatory.
Package and procurement fit
The operating temperature range of -25°C to 125°C (junction) covers industrial and commercial environments but does not extend to the -40°C low end required for automotive or some outdoor telecom applications. For wider temperature requirements, the VIPER35 series offers -40°C to 150°C with additional fault protection features, though with a different pinout and higher power capability.
It is RoHS3 compliant, free from the six original RoHS substances plus the four phthalates, which simplifies compliance for EU-bound products.
