What 12mOhm Rds(on) Means for a 2.4A High-Side Switch
The IPS1025HQ is a single-channel high-side switch from STMicroelectronics, built to drive resistive, inductive, or lamp loads on a 8V to 60V supply rail. The 12mOhm typical on-resistance keeps conduction loss under 70mW at the 2.4A continuous output ceiling — the die stays cool enough that the exposed pad on the 48-VFQFN package can sink the heat into a board copper pour without forced airflow.
Fault Protection That Covers the Common Failure Modes
The switch integrates current limiting (fixed threshold), over-load, over-temperature, reverse current, short-circuit, and under-voltage lockout (UVLO) protection. That means a shorted load on a 24V truck battery won't cascade into a board fire — the current limiter clamps the output, and the thermal shutdown cycles the switch off before the junction exceeds the 150°C absolute maximum. The UVLO ensures the switch stays off until the supply rail is above the 8V minimum, preventing the external MOSFET from operating in the linear region.
Active Lifecycle and Sourcing Reality
It is ROHS3 compliant. The base product number IPS1025 covers this variant and the higher-current IPS1025HQ-32 (5.6A output) for designs that need more headroom.
Housed in a 48-VFQFN with an exposed pad (8x6mm body), the IPS1025HQ requires a thermal land on the PCB to achieve the rated power dissipation. The logic-level input is non-inverting — a logic high on the IN pin turns the N-channel output on.
