What the 1 A charge current and 125°C rating mean for your BOM
The L6924D013TR is a single-cell Li-Ion/Polymer charger IC from STMicroelectronics, delivering a programmable constant charge current up to 1 A. That 1 A ceiling sets the charge-time floor for a given cell capacity — a 1000 mAh cell charges in about an hour at the full rate, but the thermal dissipation in the 16-VFQFN package at 1 A from a 5 V input (roughly 0.8 W) means the exposed pad needs a solid thermal via array to keep the junction below the 125°C absolute maximum. The part operates over -40°C to 125°C junction temperature, which puts it in the industrial-grade band — suitable for outdoor telecom, automotive cabin, or factory-floor portable equipment where the ambient can hit 85°C and still leave 40°C of headroom for self-heating during charge.
Programming the charge profile and protection
Charge current and a safety timer are programmable via external components — the constant-current phase is set by a resistor, and the timer terminates the charge if the battery never reaches the 4.2 V termination voltage within the window. This prevents overcharging a damaged cell that won't accept full voltage. Built-in over-temperature fault protection shuts down the charger if the die exceeds the safe limit — this is a last-resort thermal shutdown, not a current-foldback scheme. For applications that need input over-voltage or reverse-current blocking, an external protection circuit is required; the L6924D013TR does not include those protections internally.

Housed in a 16-VFQFN exposed-pad package measuring 3x3 mm (VFQFPN-16), the L6924D013TR is a surface-mount device supplied on Tape & Reel, suitable for high-volume reflow assembly.
