TVOC IAQ measurement and error budget
The ZMOD4410AI1V is a TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compounds) IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) integrated sensor, designed to measure the concentration of volatile organic compounds in indoor environments — think office HVAC demand-controlled ventilation, air purifier feedback, or smart building air-quality monitoring. Accuracy is specified at 15% — this is the headline error budget for the TVOC reading. In a worst-case error stack-up, the sensor's own tolerance plus the I²C readout resolution and any temperature-induced drift must stay within the application's acceptable ppm uncertainty.
I²C interface and low-voltage rail
Communication is over the I²C bus — the standard two-wire interface that connects directly to most microcontrollers without a level shifter, provided the MCU's I²C pins tolerate a 1.7 V logic level. The supply voltage is 1.7 V, which means the sensor can run off a single-cell Li-ion battery near its end-of-discharge voltage or from a 1.8 V regulated rail common in low-power embedded systems. Active-mode current draw is 2.8 mA — a modest figure for a gas sensor that performs periodic measurement cycles. For a battery-powered node that samples every 60 seconds, the average current is dominated by the sensor's warm-up and measurement time, not the standby current.
Temperature envelope and deployment context
Rated for -40°C to 65°C ambient temperature — this covers indoor residential and commercial spaces, outdoor enclosures in temperate climates, and cold-chain storage monitoring. It does not extend to engine-bay or industrial oven environments; the upper limit of 65°C means the sensor should be kept away from heat sources like power supplies or direct sunlight inside the enclosure.
