2-channel 1Mbps photocoupler with open collector output
The Renesas PS9822-2-V-AX is a 2-channel photocoupler from the NEPOC series, offering a data rate of 1Mbps with open collector outputs. This makes it suited for isolating digital signals in industrial interfaces, PLC I/O modules, and motor drive feedback paths where the open collector allows direct drive of logic inputs or pull-up termination to a separate supply rail. Rated for 2500Vrms isolation, the part provides galvanic separation between input and output sides, protecting low-voltage logic from transients on the field side. The 15kV/µs minimum common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) ensures the output does not glitch when high dV/dt edges couple across the isolation barrier — a key spec for motor-drive inverter legs where the DC bus switches at several kV/µs.
Timing and drive margins
Propagation delay is 700ns max for tpLH and 500ns max for tpHL, with typical rise/fall times of 60ns and 70ns respectively. At 1Mbps the bit period is 1µs, so the total propagation skew eats roughly half the timing budget — the downstream receiver must tolerate this asymmetry, particularly in synchronous interfaces where the clock and data paths see different delays. The LED forward voltage is 1.6V typical at 15mA max forward current. The output side sinks up to 20mA per channel from a 7V supply rail.
Package and temperature grade
The surface-mount footprint matches standard SO-8 land patterns, simplifying PCB layout without needing a custom pad geometry. Rated for operation from -40°C to 100°C, covering industrial temperature environments. The 100°C upper limit is sufficient for most indoor control cabinets but leaves no margin for engine-bay or close-to-motor applications where ambient may exceed 85°C.
