M32R core and on-chip memory budget
The M32171F3VFP is a 32-bit single-core microcontroller built around Renesas' proprietary M32R core running at 40 MHz. For a CANbus node running a moderate protocol stack with a 10-bit ADC scan loop, the flash holds the application code and the RAM covers the stack and a few hundred bytes of global data — no external memory required unless you are buffering large telemetry logs.
Supply voltage spans 3 V to 5.5 V, so the part runs from either a 3.3 V regulated rail or a 5 V automotive battery line without an intermediate regulator.
Peripheral set and I/O count
On-chip peripherals include DMA, PWM, CANbus, EBI/EMI, SPI, and UART/USART. The data converters are a 16-channel 10-bit ADC and a single-channel 10-bit DAC. With 97 I/O pins in a 144-pin LQFP, 47 pins are consumed by power, ground, and reserved functions — plan the decoupling capacitor placement and the pin-mux assignment early in the layout phase.
Package and board integration
The M32171F3VFP is supplied in a 144-LQFP package with a 20x20 mm body. Surface-mount assembly — no through-hole variant exists.
