What the 5000Vrms isolation and 15kV/µs CMTI mean for your design
The Renesas NEPOC PS9587L2-V-AX is a single-channel, high-speed optocoupler in an 8-SMD gull-wing package. Its 5000Vrms isolation rating suits it for galvanic isolation in industrial motor drives, power inverters, and medical equipment where patient-contact isolation barriers are required. The 15kV/µs common-mode transient immunity ensures the output stays clean when high dv/dt noise from a switching power stage couples across the barrier — a common failure point in IGBT gate-drive feedback and isolated ADC interfaces.
10Mbps data rate and 75ns propagation delay — timing margin for fieldbus links
With a 10Mbps data rate and 75ns max propagation delay (tpLH and tpHL both 75ns), this optocoupler can handle Profibus, DeviceNet, and other industrial fieldbuses running at 10 Mbps or slower. The symmetrical 75ns delay keeps the pulse-width distortion low enough that the receiver does not lose bit timing over a few meters of cable. If your bus runs at 20 Mbps or higher, this part will not close timing — look at a faster digital isolator instead.
Open collector output — pull-up resistor and rail selection
The open collector output sinks up to 25 mA per channel but cannot source current. You must add a pull-up resistor to a voltage rail on the output side — typically 3.3V or 5V. The output voltage swing is then determined by that external rail, not the input-side supply. This is standard for optocouplers driving logic inputs or relay coils, but it means the output rise time depends on the pull-up resistor value and load capacitance, not just the 10ns fall time.
