5000Vrms isolation for industrial signal isolation
The Renesas PS9513L2-AX is a single-channel optocoupler with a DC-coupled input LED and an open-collector output transistor, rated for 5000Vrms isolation voltage. It's the part you reach for when a PLC digital input, motor-drive fault feedback, or industrial sensor interface needs galvanic isolation between a 4.5V to 20V logic rail and a noisy field side. The open collector output pulls up to whatever supply the receiving logic uses, so it bridges 5V MCU inputs and 24V control logic without a level shifter. Data rate is specified at 1Mbps, with a maximum propagation delay of 750ns low-to-high and 500ns high-to-low. That's not a high-speed digital isolator — you wouldn't run SPI or CAN FD through it — but it's plenty for 1kHz PWM gate-drive feedback, relay status readback, or 50/60Hz line-sync detection where the timing budget is in microseconds, not nanoseconds.
15kV/µs CMTI — survives the switching node
Common-mode transient immunity is rated at a minimum of 15kV/µs. That's the spec that keeps the output from glitching when a 600V IGBT switches next to the optocoupler. In a motor-drive or inverter application, the isolation barrier sees a fast voltage slew between primary and secondary grounds; if the CMTI is too low, the output toggles falsely and the controller reads a phantom fault. 15kV/µs is a solid floor for industrial drives and servo amplifiers.
Open collector output with 15mA sink
The output transistor sinks up to 15mA continuous. That's enough to drive a standard optocoupler load — an MCU GPIO pin, a relay coil with an external transistor, or a 5V logic input through a 330Ω pull-up resistor. The forward LED needs 1.65V typical and can take up to 25mA, so it interfaces directly with 3.3V or 5V logic without a series resistor calculation beyond the usual LED current limit.
8-DIP Gull Wing — standard SMD footprint
Packaged in an 8-SMD Gull Wing (8-DIP Gull Wing) surface-mount case. This is the same footprint used by the NEC/CEL PS95xx series and many Renesas optocouplers, so it's a drop-in replacement for existing layouts that use that package. The gull-wing leads give good visual solder-joint inspection access, which matters for medical or industrial products that get AOI.
