Isolation barrier and signal transfer
The PS2565L2-1-V-A is a single-channel optocoupler from Renesas with a transistor output, rated for 5000Vrms isolation between input and output. That isolation voltage qualifies it for safety barriers in industrial power supplies, motor drives, and PLC I/O modules where galvanic separation between control and power circuits is mandatory. The current transfer ratio spans 80% minimum to 400% maximum at 5mA forward current, giving you a wide operating window for the LED drive. At the low end, 80% CTR means 4mA collector current from 5mA input — enough to saturate a downstream logic input. At 400%, the same 5mA input drives 20mA output, useful when driving a low-impedance load or when the LED current is constrained by the upstream driver.
Input flexibility and output ratings
The input accepts both AC and DC drive — the internal back-to-back LED structure handles reverse polarity without an external diode. This simplifies the BOM when the optocoupler is driven from a bipolar signal or an AC line-sense circuit. Output side: the phototransistor blocks up to 80V collector-emitter and sinks 50mA continuous per channel. Saturation voltage is 300mV max at rated current, so the output drops less than a logic-low threshold when driving a 5V or 3.3V input. Rise and fall times are 3µs and 5µs typical — fast enough for 100kHz switching signals but not for high-speed data isolation above 1Mbps.
Package, temperature range, and compliance
Housed in a 4-SMD gull-wing package (supplier device package 4-SMD), the PS2565L2-1-V-A is a surface-mount part shipped in tube format. The gull-wing leads provide visual solder-joint inspection access and good thermal cycling reliability on standard FR4 boards. The forward voltage is 1.17V typical at rated current; maximum DC forward current is 80mA. RoHS3 compliant per Renesas lifecycle data — no exemption-based restrictions on the BOM.
Sourcing and lifecycle posture
No pin-compatible second-source is listed on the Renesas cross-reference, so the BOM position is single-sourced to this order code.
