16 Mbit DataFlash with Quad SPI — what it does
The Microchip AT45DQ161-SSHF2B-T is a 16 Mbit serial FLASH memory organised as 512 bytes per page across 4096 pages, accessed through an SPI bus that supports Quad I/O. It runs at up to 85 MHz clock frequency. The part is non-volatile and specified for -40°C to 85°C.
Page program and erase timing
Write-cycle timing is 8 µs for a word write and 6 ms for a full page program. That 6 ms page-write window is the period the host must wait before issuing the next command — relevant when calculating firmware-update time or OTA download budgets. The 512-byte page size matches the sector-erase granularity, so wear-leveling algorithms can align writes to page boundaries without wasted overhead.
Package and mounting
Housed in an 8-pin SOIC with a 3.90 mm body width (0.154" narrow), surface-mount solders directly to a standard pitch footprint. No heatsink or special pad layout required.
Lifecycle and sourcing
There is no NRND or EOL notice on this part — it qualifies for new BOM entries and production ramp without LTB risk. The part is ROHS3 compliant (lead-free).
