16 Mbit SPI flash in 8-SOIC
The AT45DB161E-SSHFHC-T is a 16 Mbit non-volatile flash memory from Renesas, organized as 528 bytes × 4096 pages. It communicates over an SPI bus at up to 85 MHz, which gives a read throughput around 10 MB/s — enough to feed a Cortex-M4 boot stream without wait-state bottlenecks. Supply range spans 2.3V to 3.6V, so it sits comfortably on a 3.3V rail and can also run from a 2.5V supply in low-power designs.

Write cycle time is 8 µs for a word and 4 ms for a full page. That 4 ms erase per page means a 4096-page chip takes about 16 seconds to bulk-erase — relevant if you are planning over-the-air firmware updates where the device must stay powered through the erase cycle. The 8-SOIC (0.154-inch body, 3.90 mm width) is a common footprint shared with many serial EEPROMs and smaller flashes, so a board layout designed for a 24-series EEPROM often accepts this part with no copper change.
