Buffer selection for 5 V bus expansion
The 74FCT16244CTPAG is a 16-bit non-inverting buffer from the 74FCT family, organized as four 4-bit elements with independent 3-state output enables.
Output drive and supply rail
The 32 mA / 64 mA output drive (I_OH / I_OL) means the buffer can switch the capacitive load of a long trace or multiple fan-out gates without adding external pull-ups. Each of the four elements handles 4 bits independently, with a dedicated output-enable pin per bank. This lets the designer gate sections of the bus without adding external logic — useful for multiplexed address/data buses where only one bank should be active at a time.
