PLL clock generator for 3.3 V / 5 V system timing
The Renesas 501MLFT is a single-circuit PLL clock generator from the LOCO™ series, accepting a clock or crystal input and delivering a CMOS output up to 160 MHz. The integrated PLL multiplies the reference frequency, making it a clean fit for generating a higher-speed system clock from a lower-frequency crystal or oscillator — common in networking, set-top boxes, and embedded processor boards that need a precise, jitter-controlled clock without a separate PLL IC.
160 MHz output — what it covers
The 160 MHz maximum output frequency handles most 100 MHz Ethernet MAC clocks, 125 MHz SGMII reference clocks, and general-purpose processor or FPGA clock trees up to that speed. The 1:1 input-to-output ratio means the PLL multiplies the input frequency but does not divide it down — the output runs at the multiplied rate, so the input crystal or clock must be a submultiple of the target output. The divider/multiplier block is marked No/Yes, confirming the PLL only multiplies.
Supply range and temperature grade
Operating from 3 V to 5.25 V, the 501MLFT can be powered from a 3.3 V or 5 V rail without a separate regulator. The 0°C to 70°C commercial temperature range restricts it to indoor, temperature-controlled environments — office equipment, consumer electronics, telecom indoor racks. Not rated for industrial or automotive under-hood use.
Package and mounting
Supplied in an 8-SOIC package with surface-mount mounting. The 8-SOIC footprint is a common, easy-to-route package — no exposed pad, no thermal via requirements. The -FT suffix indicates Tape & Reel (TR) and Cut Tape (CT) options, suitable for both prototyping and production reels.
Lifecycle and compliance
The 501MLFT is listed as Active with ROHS3 compliance.
