50 MHz HCS12X core with integrated LCD and motor-control peripherals
The MC9S12XHZ256CAL is a 16-bit microcontroller from the HCS12X family, running at 50 MHz. The core size is 16-bit, and the program memory is 256 KB of Flash in a 256K x 8 organization. On-chip memory includes 16 KB of RAM (16K x 8) and 4 KB of EEPROM (4K x 8), giving enough headroom for a real-time control loop with parameter storage and a modest data buffer. The peripheral set is built for mixed-signal control: a direct LCD driver, motor-control PWM, a 16-channel 10-bit A/D converter, plus CANbus, LINbus, I²C, SCI, and SPI connectivity. The 85 general-purpose I/O lines route through the 112-LQFP package.
112-LQFP footprint and industrial temperature range
The part is supplied in a 112-lead LQFP with a 20×20 mm body (supplier device package 112-LQFP (20x20)). The 0.65 mm pitch is rework-friendly with a standard hot-air nozzle and does not require a pre-bake if the moisture-barrier bag is intact.
Active lifecycle and compliance posture
It is ROHS3 compliant, meaning the bill of materials contains no restricted substances under the current EU directive. Sourced through independent distribution channels. No official second-source or pin-compatible alternative is listed on the manufacturer's cross-reference.
