What this interrupt controller does on the bus
The P8259A-2 is a programmable interrupt controller designed to manage interrupt requests in x86 and similar microprocessor systems. It handles up to eight interrupt inputs, prioritizes them, and vectors the CPU to the appropriate service routine. The 28-pin DIP package (28-DIP) is through-hole, intended for socketed or soldered mounting on a PCB. That limits it to indoor, climate-controlled equipment — office automation, telecom racks, or benchtop test gear.
This part is RoHS non-compliant, so verify your assembly line's solder process and any regional RoHS exemptions before committing to a production run.
The 28-DIP package is a standard dual-in-line footprint.
