What this octal latch does on the board
The Texas Instruments SN74ACT373PWR is an octal D-type transparent latch from the 74ACT family, packing eight latches with tri-state outputs into a 20-TSSOP package. When the latch-enable (LE) pin is high, the outputs follow the data inputs; when LE goes low, the last data state is held. The output-enable (OE) bar puts the eight outputs into high-impedance — useful for shared bus architectures where multiple peripherals drive the same lines. The 8.5ns propagation delay (typical) keeps up with fast address/data buses in older 5V systems, and the symmetric 24mA source/sink drive handles multiple TTL loads or a bank of LEDs without external buffers. The 20-TSSOP footprint is common — you'll find it on PLC I/O modules, motor drive interface boards, and legacy 5V backplanes.
The 8.5ns propagation delay is the time from the latch-enable edge to the output settling. In a 5V system clocked at 50 MHz, that's about half a clock period — tight but workable if the bus is lightly loaded. If you're driving a long backplane or a heavily capacitive line, the delay stretches; budget extra margin or use a 74ACT family member with higher drive.
ROHS3 compliant, so it passes European and California regulatory requirements without exemption paperwork. No AEC-Q qualification listed, so it's not formally automotive-grade, but the industrial temperature range covers many under-hood and chassis applications where the customer accepts non-AEC parts.
