The Texas Instruments SN74ACT244NSR is an octal buffer and line driver from the 74ACT family, organised as two 4-bit elements with non-inverting logic and independent 3-state output enables.
The 24 mA source and sink capability is the headline rating. It gives you enough current to drive a heavily loaded backplane trace or a bank of CMOS inputs without signal degradation.
