Camera flash boost driver with I²C dimming
The Texas Instruments LM3554TMX/NOPB is a DC-DC boost regulator designed specifically for camera flash applications. It integrates two outputs capable of delivering 600 mA per channel during flash, controlled via an I²C interface for precise dimming and timing. The 2 MHz switching frequency allows the use of small external inductors and capacitors, saving board space in compact camera modules.
Supply range and thermal limits
The device operates from a 2.5 V to 5.5 V supply, compatible with single-cell Li-ion batteries common in portable cameras. The -30°C to 85°C ambient temperature range covers consumer and industrial handheld devices, though the upper end may be tight for enclosed designs with high ambient heat — watch the thermal derating if the flash fires repeatedly in a warm chassis.
Package and mounting
Housed in a 16-bump DSBGA package, the LM3554TMX/NOPB requires a well-controlled SMT process and X-ray inspection for solder joint verification.
Sourcing and lifecycle
No end-of-life notice or last-time-buy window is currently in effect, making it suitable for both new designs and ongoing production.
