12-bit DAC with R-2R core and SPI control
The AD5721BCPZ-RL7 is a single-channel, 12-bit voltage-output DAC from Analog Devices, built around an R-2R ladder architecture and controlled via a standard SPI interface. It settles to within 0.5 LSB in 12.5 µs typical, which is fast enough for closed-loop servo tuning or waveform generation in the low-audio band without external buffer delay. The output is buffered internally, so the DAC drives a 2 kΩ load directly without an external op-amp — one less part in the BOM and one less noise source on the board.
Linearity and monotonicity
INL and DNL are both specified at ±0.5 LSB maximum, which guarantees monotonicity over the full temperature range — no missing codes, no output reversal at a major carry. For a 12-bit DAC with a 10 V reference, ±0.5 LSB corresponds to about ±1.2 mV of integral error — well within the tolerance of a 0.1% feedback divider.
Package and board integration
The reference input is external, so the PCB layout must keep the REF pin trace short and guard-ringed to avoid coupling digital noise into the DAC core.
