Switch topology and load-voltage range
The TDE1708DFT is a general-purpose power switch from STMicroelectronics, offering two independent outputs that can be configured as either high-side or low-side switches. The 1:2 input-to-output ratio means a single on/off control signal drives both channels simultaneously. The load voltage spans 6 V to 48 V, and each output is rated for 250 mA continuous.
Integrated 5 V rail and protection
A 5 V regulated output is built into the switch — no external LDO needed when the load or control logic requires a local 5 V rail. The switch itself does not require a separate Vcc supply; the internal bias is derived from the load voltage. Fault protection covers over-temperature shutdown and reverse-current blocking. If the output is forced above the input or the die exceeds the thermal threshold, the switch disconnects the load. The reverse-current protection prevents back-feeding into the supply when the load side stays live after the input drops.
Housed in an 8-VDFN with exposed pad (supplier package 8-DFN 4x4 mm), the TDE1708DFT is a surface-mount part intended for reflow assembly. Operating temperature range is -25°C to +85°C ambient, which covers most indoor industrial and automotive cabin applications. The output is bipolar (BJT-based), so the on-resistance is higher than a MOSFET equivalent, but the dropout behaviour is well-defined across the temperature band.
