Current handling and surge capability
The T2550-12G: With a 25 A RMS continuous rating, this TRIAC handles motor loads, heating elements, and lighting ballasts in the 2–5 kW range at 230 VAC. The non-repetitive surge rating of 240 A at 50 Hz and 252 A at 60 Hz means it survives inrush from incandescent lamps or capacitor-start motors without external snubber protection. The Snubberless™ design uses a high-voltage alternistor structure that commutates dV/dt without the RC snubber typically required for standard TRIACs — a board-space and BOM-cost saving in inductive load circuits.
Gate drive and thermal envelope
A maximum gate trigger current of 50 mA and gate trigger voltage of 1.3 V allow direct drive from a microcontroller I/O through a limiting resistor. The 60 mA hold current ensures the TRIAC stays latched through the zero-crossing of a 25 A RMS load.
Sourcing and compliance
The T2550-12G is an active STMicroelectronics part with no announced end-of-life. It is ROHS3 compliant and supplied in tube packaging.
