8 A, 300 V fast recovery in a TO-220AC package
The STTH803D is a general-purpose fast recovery rectifier from STMicroelectronics, rated for 8 A average forward current and 300 V repetitive reverse voltage. It comes in the TO-220AC through-hole package, a standard footprint for power rectifiers that bolts into a heatsink or sits on a PCB with a simple two-hole pattern. The 35 ns reverse recovery time places it in the fast recovery class (under 500 ns), making it suitable for switching power supplies and freewheeling diode applications where stored charge recovery speed matters for efficiency and EMI.
Forward drop and thermal headroom
That 10 W conduction loss at full rated current is manageable in the TO-220AC package, provided the junction temperature stays below the 175°C absolute maximum. Reverse leakage is 20 µA at 300 V, which is typical for a fast recovery diode in this voltage class. At elevated junction temperatures leakage doubles, so the 175°C max rating gives the thermal design margin for high-ambient or poorly-ventilated enclosures.
