What the 45 ns trr means on the bench
The STTH12R06G: The 45 ns reverse recovery time places it in the fast-recovery class (≤ 500 ns, > 200 mA Io). That trr matters in a continuous-current flyback or boost converter: the diode's reverse-recovery charge is what the upstream FET sees as an extra switching loss. At 12 A forward and 600 V blocking, a 45 ns trr keeps the crossover loss manageable at switching frequencies in the tens of kHz — think PFC boost stages or output rectification in a 150 W+ supply.
D2PAK footprint and thermal path
The D2PAK (TO-263AB) surface-mount package has an exposed tab on the bottom — that tab is the anode connection and the primary heat path. The 175 °C maximum junction temperature gives headroom, but the real thermal limit is set by how much copper you pour under the tab on the PCB. A 2 oz copper pour of at least 600 mm² on the top layer keeps the junction below 125 °C at 12 A continuous with the 2.9 V forward drop.
ROHS3 compliance — no paperwork surprise
The STTH12R06G is ROHS3 Compliant per the manufacturer's declaration. That means no exemptions for lead in solder or any of the six restricted substances plus the four phthalates. For a board destined for EU market or any customer with a restricted-materials spec, this diode clears the compliance gate without a waiver or a deviation note.
