Product details

25 A RMS, 600 V — Snubberless™ Alternistor for inductive loads

The BTA24-600CWRG is an Alternistor TRIAC from ST's Snubberless™ series, rated 25 A RMS on-state current and 600 V off-state blocking voltage in a TO-220-3 through-hole package. The Snubberless™ designation means the device is designed to commutate inductive loads — motors, solenoids, transformers — without requiring an external RC snubber across the main terminals, simplifying the PCB layout and reducing BOM count.

Gate drive and surge capability

Maximum gate trigger current is 35 mA with a 1.3 V gate trigger voltage — a standard logic-level or optocoupler output can drive it directly, but the 50 mA holding current means the load must draw at least that much to keep the TRIAC latched after the gate pulse is removed. Non-repetitive surge current rating is 250 A at 50 Hz, 260 A at 60 Hz — this covers inrush from incandescent lamps, capacitive loads, or motor start-up without the device failing short.

Active, RoHS3, and the Snubberless™ family fit

The junction temperature range spans -40°C to 125°C, covering industrial and appliance-grade environments.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Snubberless™ series on the BTA24-600CWRG?

It is ST's Snubberless™ Alternistor TRIAC family, designed for inductive load commutation without an external snubber network. The BTA24-600CWRG is a 25 A, 600 V variant in a TO-220 package.

Will BTA24-600CWRG replace BTA24-600BWRG in the same board?

Both are TO-220, 25 A RMS, 600 V Snubberless™ Alternistors from the same BTA24 base number. The suffix difference is the gate trigger sensitivity — the CWRG has a 35 mA Igt max versus the BWRG's 50 mA Igt max. Electrically they are drop-in compatible for most designs, but confirm the gate drive circuit's current capability against the lower Igt of the CWRG.
