5 A, 60 V, AEC-Q101 — the automotive Schottky for OR-ing and reverse-protection
The STPS5L60SFY is a 60 V, 5 A Schottky rectifier in the TO-277A (SMPC) surface-mount package, qualified to AEC-Q101 for automotive-grade reliability. It carries a 150°C maximum junction temperature and a fast recovery speed under 500 ns, making it suitable for high-frequency switching in DC-DC converters, OR-ing diodes, and reverse-polarity protection circuits in engine-bay and cabin electronics.
Junction temperature and leakage — the thermal budget
Rated for continuous 5 A average rectified current at 60 V reverse voltage, with a junction temperature range of -40°C to 150°C. Reverse leakage is specified at 470 µA at 60 V — this is the conduction loss in the blocking state and doubles with temperature, so the thermal design should account for leakage heating in high-ambient under-hood applications. The TO-277A package (SMPC) has an exposed pad on the bottom that must be soldered to a copper plane for heat spreading. The datasheet's RthJA figure assumes a minimum pad area; a layout with insufficient copper will push the junction above 150°C at full rated current.
Active lifecycle and automotive compliance
The part carries ECOPACK®2 halogen-free compliance and AEC-Q101 qualification, which includes the full PPAP and reliability test suite for automotive Tier-1 supply.
