Dual-domain processor for combined application and real-time control
The STM32MP157FAB1 is an asymmetric dual-core microprocessor from the STM32MP1 series, pairing a 800 MHz ARM Cortex-A7 application core with a 209 MHz ARM Cortex-M4 real-time coprocessor on a single 354-LFBGA die. This architecture lets a single chip run a Linux-based HMI stack on the A7 while the M4 handles deterministic motor control or sensor fusion with cycle-accurate timing — no second MCU, no inter-chip latency. Memory interface supports DDR3, DDR3L, LPDDR2, and LPDDR3, giving the system architect flexibility to balance cost and bandwidth against the application's frame-buffer and data-throughput needs. On the peripheral side, the part carries dual Ethernet (one 10/100, one Gigabit) and five USB 2.0 ports — two host and three OTG+PHY — enough for a multi-interface industrial gateway or a 7-inch panel PC with external storage.
Security and display path
ARM TrustZone (ARM TZ) hardware isolates secure and non-secure worlds at the bus level — a requirement for secure-boot chains, encrypted storage, and payment-terminal certification. The integrated LCD controller and HDMI-CEC interface drive a local display directly, eliminating a separate display bridge chip on the BOM.
