Core and signal-chain fit
The STM32F373V8H6 runs an ARM Cortex-M4 core at 72 MHz — the DSP extension and single-cycle MAC give it the headroom for real-time filtering loops that a Cortex-M3 would struggle with at the same clock. What sets this MCU apart in the STM32F3 line is the analog peripheral density: three 16-bit sigma-delta ADCs alongside a 12-bit SAR ADC and three 12-bit DACs. That means it can simultaneously sample multiple low-level sensor channels (strain gauges, thermocouples, current shunts) with the sigma-delta resolution while a separate SAR channel captures a fast event like a zero-crossing — all without an external analog front-end.
Package and board integration
Housed in a 100-ball UFBGA measuring 7x7 mm, the part demands a 4-layer PCB for reliable fan-out of the 0.50 mm pitch balls — a 2-layer board will route only the outer two rows. The 84 GPIOs include remappable pins for the CAN, USB, and multiple UART/SPI/I²C interfaces — enough to drive a local display, a fieldbus gateway, and a handful of sensors without a port expander. Internal oscillator means the part boots without an external crystal, though the internal RC accuracy (±1 % over temp) limits USB full-speed operation unless you calibrate or add a crystal.
