Obsolete — what that means for a BOM decision
STMicroelectronics lists the M24C04-WBN6 as Obsolete. For a repair bench or a production line that still carries this BOM position, the part is no longer manufactured — any new build or board repair relies on existing stock through independent distribution.
Memory organization and interface
It communicates over the I²C bus at up to 400 kHz — the standard two-wire interface that shares the bus with other I²C slaves, so the address pins (A0, A1, A2) must be pulled to VSS or VCC to set the device address on the bus. Access time is 900 ns; the write cycle time for a word or page is 5 ms. The page write mode lets you load up to 16 bytes into an internal buffer before the write cycle starts — useful for logging data in bursts without waiting per byte.
Through-hole mounting means it sockets into a standard 8-pin DIP footprint — no hot-air rework needed, just a desoldering tool or a DIP socket for prototyping. The bulk packaging is loose tubes or trays, not tape-and-reel, so it ships as individual units for bench or low-volume assembly.
