Fixed -5V negative regulator in D2PAK — now obsolete
The STMicroelectronics L7905C-D2TR is a fixed -5V output, negative linear voltage regulator rated for 1.5A continuous output current in a D2PAK (TO-263) surface-mount package. PSRR is 60 dB at 120 Hz.
1.5A output, -35V max input, 1.4V dropout
Input voltage maximum is -35 V, and typical dropout voltage is 1.4 V at 1 A load. Quiescent current is 3 mA typical, and the regulator includes over-temperature and short-circuit protection. The D2PAK (TO-263-3) package has a large exposed copper tab on the bottom — the tab is the output terminal and also the primary heat path. PCB layout must provide adequate copper area and thermal vias to keep junction temperature below 125°C at 1.5 A load.
Sourcing a discontinued part
A board-level redesign to a pin-compatible -5 V regulator from a different manufacturer may be necessary for long-term production.
